Andy Yuroff likes to hunt and fish and developed a knack for smoking meat. The jerky that he would bring into the GM plant where he worked was popular. He found that he could make delicious jerky from Turkey and it was healthier. Being a “get it done” kind of guy, Andy started raising Turkeys. He took special care of his birds way before the “organic” craze and soon opened a location at the Flint Farmers Market selling jerky.
“The meat would smoke for hours and then I’d open up the stove and people would come running!” said Andy.
The Flint Farmers Market location was soon outgrown. He couldn’t produce enough to meat demand. The Mill Road location was a perfect size for production and some sales. His attention to detail and creativity made the Mill Road location work. Andy tells a story about how he introduced the neighborhood to his product and got things going on Mill Road.
“I went to the 7-11 nearby and was looking at a hunting magazine and notice that just about everyone walking out had milk. I could sell milk!,” said Andy.
Soon Andy had a cooler of milk and a sign out front offering it at a deep discount. People stopped in and bought some jerky or sandwiches and it took off!
He outgrew his Turkey farm production and now selects only the best whole turkeys from larger suppliers.
Not the idle type, Andy decided that a larger menu would be in order. You can make omelets, breakfast sausage, breakfast burrito, turkey bacon, sliced turkey, turkey sandwiches – hot and cold, tacos, turkey dinner, pot pie, BBQ turkey (Turkey Ribs), and even Pizza!
